Explorers-in-Residence
Mike Fay and Enric Sala are at it again and off on their latest adventure. This
time the pair is headed to Gabon in Africa to explore and survey its land and
ocean. Mike will lead the expedition and will conduct terrestrial surveys,
while Enric will lead marine research that studies Gabon’s marine ecosystems.

Best
known for its abundant land animals like gorillas, chimpanzees, forest
elephants, and hippos, this expedition aims to study the area’s underwater
life. Gabon has hundreds of kilometers of pristine beaches and coastal lagoons,
but little is known about the country’s underwater life. This expedition hopes to
learn more about Gabon’s underwater environment, from shallow depths to the deep
ocean. With any luck, the knowledge gained will inspire the government to protect
what is discovered there.
