I extend my compliments NG for efforts to bring geography to kids. I took a look at the gCensus The Map, but I was surprised by what I learned. I drilled down on the gCensus map of the US to the Kansas City, Missouri area. Specifically, I drilled to the downtown business area located south of the Missouri River and the Loose Park area, which is located about 5 miles directly south of the Missouri River and Kansas City MO downtown area.** For the two respective locations, I clicked on the red dot for information. I was surprised to learn that the county given for the respective census tracts is Cass County rather than Jackson County. The population and housing numbers seems reasonable, but the county I question. As far as I know there is no plan under discussion to extend the Cass County boundaries south of the Missouri River or alter the Jackson county boundaries. Jackson county does encompass the business and residential area south of the Missouri River at least 10 or more miles, west to the Kansas state line, and east the city of Independence. Maybe I overlooked some explanation statement
I would appreciate Help with understanding – why the area of Kansas City Missouri that is located south of the Missouri River is identified as within Cass County rather than Jackson County. Thanks.
**The census tract nos. given for the two areas, as I recall, are 28.01 and 44.
