According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), thousands of people are impacted by severe weather threats every year. Last year, severe weather was to blame for 250 weather-related fatalities and more than 2,600 injuries.

Because severe weather can be so unpredictable, it is essential for every person and every family to be aware of the potential dangers of an extreme weather event and to have an action plan to help keep safe.

So how do you get started?

1. Visit the FEMA website and pledge to Be a Force of Nature. Take the pledge with your family and commit to knowing your risk, taking action, and being an example, by sharing what you have learned with your friends, family, coworkers and others.

2. Complete this fun and educational activity: Preparing for Extreme Natural Events with your family. This is a great way to spend a snow day and a perfect way to fulfill your pledge to be a force of nature.

Once you’ve taken your pledge and created and studied your family emergency plan, check out these other fun, informative resources on emergency preparedness, extreme weather and more!
